Tuesday Gardening Series: John Buettner- Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse with a One Acre Fruit & Vegetable Garden
John Buettner and John Dole, both life-long gardeners, tend a one acre garden at their home on the south side of Raleigh, North Carolina. Their yard is an exploration in the typical and unusual varieties of plants grown for food throughout the world. If it sounds interesting, they plant it and see how it does. Somethings get planted every year and others get the axe to make room for something new - it’s a true “Fruit or Die” garden.
John Buettner (pronounced Bitt-ner) will share with you his secrets for growing Kiwi, Jujube, Rhubarb, Cocona, Goumi, Ogeechee Limes, Roselle, Pawpaw and many others, as well as the tropical fruits he grows in the hoop house - Guava, Citrus, Jaboticaba, Lilly-Pilly, Papaya, Banana, Avocado and many others. All this is in addition to normal things like strawberries, blue berries, blackberries, pears, peaches and apples, as well as the usual tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, etc.
